About Us

The Friends formed in January 2009, a group of local people increasingly concerned about the neglected state of the station, and anxious to ensure its continued survival.

As part of ScotRail's Adopt a Station scheme, we started by installing containers of plants on the concourse, following the tradition of the past, when the station was famous for its displays of potted plants. We were offered the use of empty accommodation which we now use to run a fund-raising second-hand bookshop and exhibition area, open Mondays to Saturdays, 9.30 - 4.30. We wish to make it a meeting-place for local people and visitors by organising events, putting on exhibitions, recording and displaying the history of the station and pier. We have been delighted by the response to our efforts as we have now a membership of almost 250, from far and wide, such is the regard and affection felt for this splendid structure.
