70th Anniversary of the Evacuation of Dunkirk Commemoration [return]
A reproduction of the paddle box crest of the first 'Waverley' has been created for the station in plant material by Ian Welsh

Many people still remember the three original paddle box crests which were displayed on the walkway leading down to the pier. The first Waverley took part in Operation Dynamo, where troops stranded on the beaches at Dunkirk in 1940 were rescued by an armada of any ships that would float. By displaying this floral version of the first Waverley's crest the Friends are able to pay their respects to the men who went to sea in little ships 70 years ago. That Waverley came under attack from German aircraft and was sunk, but her captain, John Cameron, was among those rescued. He went on to become captain of the second Waverley.
The Friends were especially pleased to welcome his widow, Jean, to their meeting on 9th August.
